Sam Woodgate’s had a season he’ll never forget. He stroked the St Bede’s Maadi Cup-winning eight and their Springbok Shield-winning four. His brother Thomas was behind him every step of the way, literally, with Thomas in the stern pair of both boats.

The Woodgate boys were back at Karāpiro  - Sam trialing for the U19s, Thomas in the North v South U18 series.

Now Sam can’t wait to get back north when the U19 Eight reassembles for training.

Here’s the moment Sam checks his messages from his family back in Christchurch after the crew announcement.
