The Final Southland regatta the “Dash 4 Cash” for the 2022-2023 season was held in “Pearler” conditions on Riverton Harbour back in March hosted by Riverton Rowing Club.

A unique event with the Riverton Harbour having so many different current systems.

Four lanes are used, four different boats (all coxed quads) crews are selected by ballot. Crews rowed four races once in each lane and then changed boats for each race.

Points were awarded for races over 600 metres. Lane four has the infamous “Pearl” on an incoming tide a crew can be in last place then enter the pearl at a certain angle, the tide carries you forward and if you have hit it correctly you find yourself in the lead, it takes a steady nerve and good coxing to get it right.

Once all heats of four boats are completed the three crews with the least points race for the Cash prize. First: 1 point – Second: 2 points – Third and Fourth: 3 points.

Non-Qualifying crews raced B or C finals depending on numbers competing.

This was then followed up with complementary BBQ and the handing over of the cash. Thanks to Riverton Rowing Club. another great day in the Riviera of the South.
