Back in late October there was a reunion held for the 1979 NZ men's eight, which won silver at the world champs that year.

The crew travelled from all over the country, and one from overseas for the occasion, which was hosted by Gary Reid, whose late father Tom Reid coached the eight to the World Championships in Bled, Slovenia, in 1979 The crew included: (S) Grant McAuley, Tony Brook, Tim Logan, Greg Johnston, Conrad Robertson, Peter Jansen, Mark James, Robbie Robinson, (c) Alan Cotter.

Single sculler John Alexander, who was also part of the 1979 World Championship squad, was at the reunion as well. The group linked eight Concept 2 Dynamic rowing machines and enjoyed rowing a few strokes together, for the first time in 43 years.
